AIM Completes Phase 2 of Ongos Municipal Infrastructure Project

AIM Infrastructure Engineers & Managers has completed Phase 2 of the municipal infrastructure works for the Ongos Valley Development, delivering the roads, stormwater, water and sewer reticulation that service Ongos Extension 3 on the north-western edge of Windhoek.

The completion marks another milestone in one of Namibia’s most significant urban development programmes. Ongos Valley is the country’s largest integrated housing development, a phased programme with a projected value of N$28 billion that will ultimately provide thousands of homes, schools, commercial sites and public amenities. None of that is possible until the ground beneath it works: every erf must connect to a road, a water supply, a sewer line and a stormwater system before a single house can be occupied.

Project Scope

Under the Extension 3 contract, AIM provided the full municipal infrastructure consultancy: the design of the internal road network, stormwater drainage, water reticulation and sewer reticulation, together with project supervision and quality assurance during construction.

The engineering challenge on a development of this scale is coordination. Roads, water, sewer and stormwater are four networks that occupy the same corridors, cross each other constantly, and must each meet the City of Windhoek’s standards before takeover. Designing them together, rather than in sequence, is what keeps trenching efficient, avoids clashes during construction, and protects the programme.

Delivery and Impact

Phase 2 hands over serviced land: stands that are ready for top structures, connected to functioning municipal networks. For the families who will settle in Extension 3, that means water at the tap, safe sanitation, and streets that drain when the rains come. For the broader programme, it proves the delivery model that the coming phases will repeat at greater scale.

The work forms part of AIM’s wider involvement in the Ongos Valley programme, where the firm has delivered municipal infrastructure services across Sections 1 and 2 of the development. Alongside projects such as the Monte Christo decongestion works and the Havana relocation portions, it reflects the practice’s core conviction: that well-engineered municipal infrastructure is the foundation on which Namibia’s urban future is built.
